Responsible Gambling Week launches in UK

Responsible Gambling Week was launched on October 12 by the Industry Group for Responsible Gambling (IGRG). The campaign, which runs through the 18th, is a national initiative whose goal is the promotion of responsible gambling across all gambling sectors in the UK.

The focus of the week-long campaign is “Let’s Talk About Responsible Gambling,” which is aimed at getting more conversations started about what it means to gamble responsibly. By joining together, they hope to broaden their reach and make available the necessary tools to help keep gambling fun and safe and where to find help if needed.

For the first time ever, the week will see every sector, including both online and land-based casinos, arcades, bookmakers and bingo clubs, of Great Britain’s gambling industry, take part in what is reported to be “the biggest ever pan-industry social responsibility campaign,” according to the media release. That includes more than 10,000 online sites and gambling venues and 121,000 employees that will reportedly be taking part in the campaign.

Chairman of the Industry Group for Responsible Gambling, John Hagan, said: “We want to spark more conversations across all media and in the retail and online environments.”

Hagan went on to say that essential to the success of Responsible Gambling Week, is having the entire industry behind it and that all across Great Britain and all gambling activities, operators are taking part. “Their full support and involvement is what will make this exciting initiative worthwhile. It is what will help us reach more people than ever before,” said Hagan.

The industry will take part in a range of activities to spread the message, including displaying information about Responsible Gambling Week on social media channels and industry websites and partnering with specialist charities GamCare and GambleAware to raise awareness.

Established in March 2014, the following trade bodies comprise the IGRG; the Association of British Bookmakers (ABB); British Amusement Machine Association (BACTA); The Bingo Association (BA); National Casino Forum
(NCF); and Remote Gambling Association (RGA).
